"The Ache" was performed by the Richard Burton Company at the Bute Theatre, RWCMD, Cardiff, in March 2021. It was designed, produced and performed within strict COVID-19 guidelines to a limited audience of staff and students.
Written for RWCMD's annual New Writing season, "The Ache" is a raw and fragmented exploration of the ways in which we find human connection within a modern society increasingly dominated by technology.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions in place during the design process, much of my process work was digital, opting to utilise Sketchup to create a digitial model box that could be easily shared via Zoom, and Podium to create renders of the space for presentation purposes.
As a show firmly grounded in the exploration of technology, we opted to implement projection into the design, which I designed alongisde set and costume.
The AV was used in a variety of ways, such as signalling the passing of time via a video sequence tracking the evolution of self image through time, providing visual simulous for transitions, and allowing the set to be versatile in representing changing locations for scenes.
Presented here are the edited video sequences.
